I try to sort my materials at the end of each unit. I find that works for me as I am focused on what I needed and what I no longer need.

I find in my primary class, making a student of the week creates a sense of responsibility at a young age.

Once or twice in a week (sometimes even more) I go for a run; rain or shine, “bomb cyclone” or “polar vortex”, and often in the trails in our area. Getting some exposure to our natural environment and clean air in my lungs is amazing. I see it as my weekly fresh air prescription. It allows me to remove myself from the pressures of work, where I am exclusively indoors, and I can alone with my own thoughts. After that, I’m good to get back to my ‘teacher tasks’.

At our school we had this game we called Key Curling, where we would stand at a distance of about 4 meters apart and throw/slide our keys to the house, which were two coloured squares on the linoleum floor. We even had a trophy which we passed back and forth throughout the year. We would to this after school or in the morning before the students arrived.

2-5 minutes before the day starts I step outside my classroom with my coffee and have a quiet moment or I connect with colleagues nearby.

I loved to start the day singing and dancing to a favourite song or two. The best was when colleagues would join in.

I always spend ten minutes at the end of the school day sitting in my comfy chair in the reading area and just closing my eyes. Helps me get one with the rest of my work.
